While I was taking online orders for my books, A friend of mine, Mark Willhite, ordered and paid for two books. One was for himself. The other book , he requested, was to be given to any random military troop serving overseas of my choosing. This moved me as very generous and but now I had the task of making sure the right person got this book and didn't want to leave anyone out. I decided that even better would be to get my books to all the libraries ( and they even have Temporary ones and book exchange programs) overseas as well as stateside.
When I was in the Marines, 1981-1984, I read several books like Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" and similar books on the freedoms and life I had left behind and fantasied about what I would do when I got out. I believe many of our troops today could benefit from my book, even if just for one minute of the day, remember what is waiting for them back home.
So this is what inspired a program which I am calling Books for Troops. When I talked to my publisher, Timothy Remus, he agreed that this was a great idea and has agreed to sell these books at cost and offered the first case of 30 books free to get the wheels turning. Later when I talked to my friend and big supporter of veterans, Rod Woodruff, owner of the Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, he also wanted on board and matched the donation with a case of books. David Uhl, the painter of my cover of my book with his artwork entitled "Iron Horse Heist" wanted to help out too so he has pledged a case of books.
This is well on its way now but we still have to raise some more to get these books not only into the libraries of military bases, but also to hospitals and rehab centers for the troops. Making sure that no troop is left out, anyone that does not have access to one of my books can email me at everythingbeanre@Gmail.com and, with a military address, get placed on a waiting list, with a first come, first serve basis.
